In the pharmaceutical sector, a Formulation Scientist will be responsible for planning, organising and conducting experiments to develop and improve products and dosage forms, which can take on the form of oral tablets, capsules, solutions, suspensions, topical ointments, gels and solutions and injections for intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM) or subcutaneous. They will plan and carry out laboratory work that aims to develop, understand and test any new manufacturing processes in line with required targets.
Depending on the product and the stage of its development, a Formulation Scientist might divide their time between developing and testing new formulations in the lab, writing reports, helping to set up new manufacturing runs and supporting scale-up to production.
